Born in Quebec City, Me Sophie Cloutier studied at Université Laval. She was admitted to the Québec Bar in 1998. She primarily practises labour law and occupational health and safety law.

Me Cloutier received the award for best appellant's factum at the René-Cassin Contest (European Court of Human Rights, Strasbourg).

She was a member of the Board of Directors of CADEUL (Confédération des étudiants et étudiantes de l’Université Laval 1994-1995) and Vice-president for external affairs of the AED (Association des étudiants et étudiantes en droit 1994 - 1995).
 
Currently, Me Cloutier is secretary of the Board of Directors of the Opéra de Québec and the Fondation de l'Opéra de Québec. She is also Vice-chairperson of the Robert-Giffard Foundation.

Me Cloutier is also a member of the Québec Bar liaison committee with the Commission for employment injuries. She is also a member of Lawyers Without Borders Québec and participates in its financing activities.

Publications

Me Cloutier has written an article entitled « Le retour au travail avec des limitations fonctionnelles et la modification du plan individualisé de réadaptation » published in recent developments in Occupational Health and Safety Law (2007).

She was also invited as guest speaker by the Centre de formation patronale-syndicale as well as by the Congress of the Quebec College of Professional Medical Technologists.

She is also a member of the Canadian Association of Labour Lawyers and gave a conference on psychological harassment at its 2006 annual convention.

Me Cloutier currently teaches at the School of the Québec Bar.

She is also co-author of a labour law teaching program on video cassette (1994-1996).
