Louis Morin was born in Quebec City and studied at the Collège des Jésuites de Québec and at Université Laval. He was admitted to the Barreau du Québec in 1966.
After being admitted to the bar, he practiced law with Désilets, Grondin, LeBel & Morin, which became Grondin, LeBel, Morin & Associés in 1977. In 1977, he was appointed justice to the Tribunal du Travail, where he became the coordinating judge in 1982, then chief justice of the Tribunal du travail from 1990 to 1998. When the Commission des relations du travail was created in February 2002, he became its first Chairman, a position he filled until he retired in 2004 before becoming legal counsel with Grondin, Poudrier, Bernier in January 2005.
He held various positions at the Jeune Barreau de Québec, of which he became the Chairman. He then became involved in the Barreau du Québec and the Canadian Bar Association. He was a professor of labour law and administrative law at the École du Barreau and has lectured on labour law at the Université Laval. He was a long-standing member of the Conseil de la Magistrature du Québec. He received the Prix Gérard-Tremblay (Département des relations industrielles de l’Université Laval) in 2002 and has been an honorary member of the Ordre des conseillers en relations industrielles du Québec since 1977.
