Gilles Reny was born in Quebec City and studied at the Université Laval.  He was admitted to the Barreau du Québec in 1979.   He chiefly practices business and corporate law, civil law and mining law.

 
Mr. Reny was a political advisor to the Quebec Deputy-Minister of Mines (1986 – 1988) and participated in the study and adoption of the Mining Act.
 
He has been a member of the Club Kiwanis de Québec since 1986, Secretary since 1994 and was Chairman from 1989 to 1990.
